Why raising taxes hurts EVERYONE!

Taxes are paid in the sweat of every man who labors.
~Franklin D. Roosevelt

I am sick and tired of all the BS going on about taxes. Why is it so difficult to explain this to the American People?

It’s very simple. It is the answer to one question. Who pays EVERY SINGLE TAX in this country?

Answer: The consumer!

Example – Windfall Profit Tax on Big Oil. These companies are making record profits. “Well,” says the politicians “that’s not fair.” So they raise the tax on Big Oil. “Yea,” says the middle class “make them pay more!” Except Big Oil DOES NOT make less of a profit when they pay the increase in tax. Why? Because the PRICE of their product goes up in order to generate more income so they can pay the tax increase. You end up paying more at the pump to cover Big Oil's higher taxes!

2nd Example – “We need to end tax breaks/loopholes for corporations!” campaigns the politicians. What is the result? When the corporations have a higher tax burden, they pass that cost onto you. Your milk cost more because we ended tax breaks for Big Dairy. Your bread costs more because we closed tax loopholes for Big Bakeries.

But what about the rich? We raised taxes to make them pay more. They are paying more right? We are reducing the obscene amount of money they have right?

Wrong. First taxes have no effect on the money they already have, only what they earn. Second, the rich make money from either the Corporations they own (which we have already learned raised prices to pay the extra tax) or the investments they make. The dirty little secret is the rich don’t make investments (which generates jobs) if the potential profit does not out weigh the risk involved. The higher the tax, the lower the potential profit!

And finally, IF the potential profits are higher in OTHER COUNTRIES, guess where the investment goes. If the investment goes to other countries, guess where the jobs go?
